Valentin Hagdaev is the man with 3 thumbs who believes that the human has 3 souls, and lives with 3 jobs as a Shaman, ethnographer and tour guide. He channels the Father of Lake Baikal, one of the 13 Lords in the Celestial Court in "Tengrism" – the religion of the Eternal Blue Sky. On the sacred site near Mount Arshan (Spring Mountain), Republic of Buryatia. There was a rare ceremonial ritual for a Memorandum of Understanding between the shaman associations of Tuva and the Buryatia Republic. There were 4 representatives from the Tuva Republic and about 40 shamans of different ancestral lineages from the Buryatia host. We interviewed the supreme shaman of Tuva and he provided us with great insights to the state of shamanism in Siberia today.In Search of the Tragic Spirits
In Search of the Tragic Spirits is a series of travelogue films made in Siberia. The Buryats in Siberia have faced oppression throughout history. Following decades of Soviet suppression, the resilient people have crafted a narrative where their ancestral spirits (Ongon) return as tragic spirits, vengeful over being abandoned during socialist rule. For the Buryats, these tragic spirits are supernatural links to their forgotten past, of erasure and misfortunes. This syllabus has 3 variations.Constellation Of the Flesh
Constellation of the Flesh is an experiment on vibration. Inspired by the studies of Siberian shamans going into trance, uncovering the supernatural phenomenon of religious ecstasy, and discovering the altering states of mind and body. This syllabus has 3 variations.Shaman-In-Residence
Inspired by a true story, Shaman-In-Residence is a speculative documentary on the contemporary life of a Siberian shaman in Germany. Reflecting on local knowledge, the lived experience and nonhuman knowledge, the series includes self-help body wellness exercises for beginners.Blue Sky Academy is an invitation to wander, an attempt to engage with shamanistic dance culture. It proposes an openness to the alterity, a sense of the otherness, a sensing of the visible and invisible, of the multiple worlds that oscillate around the realms of the real, the hyperreal and the altered reality.
